Numeric, alphanumeric, or other identifying codes of various types assigned to an art object, book, other item, or group of works by the repository that holds that item or group. Any item or group in a repository may have multiple types of repository numbers. For numbers specifically assigned at the time of accession by a repository, prefer "accession numbers."
